Real Meaning of Shivlinga
During 9th to 17th centuries some Mugals and some Britisher spread wrong meaning of "Shivlinga" as Shiva's private organ and made fun of Hindu Religion due to unability to understand Sanskrit language and its words.
Sanskrit is the mother of all languages also Sanskrit known as the language of Devas. Same word have different meaning in different languages like Sanskrit word "Janendriyaan" meaning in Hindi as "private organ" and Sanskrit word "Linga" meaning in Hindi as "Sign or Symbol or Mark" but in Hindi language "Ling" represent "Gender" (Masculine or Feminine) so people misunderstood Shivlinga as Shiva's private organ but Shivlinga came in to existence with Sanskrit word Linga as Symbol and Shivlinga as Symbol of Shiva.

Shiva is endless and shapeless universe focusing on Shunya (zero).

In Ancient period Rishis Muni tried to worship and meditate himself by looking at the flame of Deepak(Lamp) but they unable to focus because flame shake with the action of wind. They made stone like shape of the flame of Deepak and named it Shivlinga as sign of Shiva or sign of Universe.
There are only two things in Universe 1"Matter" 2"Energy" like that Shiva is Matter and Shakti as Energy both formed Universe in which Human species (Manushya Yoni) the most prominent as compared to other species (Gaja Yoni/Elephant Species, Ashva Yoni/Horse Species, Sarpa Yoni/Snake Species, Vaanar Yoni/Monkey Species, Vyaghra Yoni/Tiger Species).
